Today went by as any normal P-day. My Mitarbeiter (companion) and I woke up and put our laundry in at 6:15, then came back and did service. After service we finished our laundry and got ready to go to the temple. I had a neat session. I think it was because i was able to stay awake and alert. After the temple E. R and I got our discussions bound and I bought some stickers and colored pencils for C for her birthday. After all that we came back home and I tried to write letters. I wrote one to the family, T, KM, S, B, T, J, C and R. It took me forever. I’m not a quick letter writer. I told K to tell all the girls to write me and quick because my Mitarbeiter wants to see how many letters I can get from chicks. I doubt I’ll even get one from K. That would make my day. It’s weird about her. Since B started hanging around with MV people and I didn’t (don’t) see her all that much the past year, my feelings about her switched over to K. It’s dumb of me to even think like that. I don’t even want to, I want to study on the work.

Well, enough feelings. The thing I liked most about heute (today) was Sportstunde. I played Frisbee with Elders G and V. It was awesome. I did a lot of running, jumping and diving. My goal for that time was to catch a Frisbee in the air while I was diving. And I did it! The other trick I wanted to do was bounce the Frisbee off my head and catch it. I did that too! All in all it was a fantastic Sportstunde and a terrific day. Best of all, when I dove for a catch, I missed and rolled through muddy water.

What I mean to say, is that the weather was weird today. First was a nice sun shinny day. Then all of a sudden clouds poured in, and it started hailing, big ones, the size of marbles. That only lasted for about five minutes. That was the mid-day class. During the evening class the weather got all cloudy again and it down poured for a few minutes, then turned all sunny again. But just for a few minutes, because then it was night time, and darkness fell.

The day went fine for me. I didn’t speak as much German as I would have like to. I really need to work on it. It’s just frustrating, because I don’t know how to say everything that I want to, and nobody else really seems to try that hard. Oh well. Bis spater.

We finally had a Sportstunde.

The terrible German says: Elders G and R played frisbee with me. I also bought three pictures. One of Jesus Christ with children, one of just Jesus Christ, and one with Moroni burying the Golden Plates. There is nothing else to write about. All of the days are the same. I must read scriptures.

Good day

28 May 1996

The fireside was good. The rest of the day was good also.

I’ll write a few things about yesterday first. The day went pretty well. Elder F left this morning, so I said good bye to him yesterday. It was cool yesterday, Elders F and F with their comps, came over here to give me some film to develop for them, and to say good bye. We did a lot of good talking, about how to build a better toilet. We also decided that we’re all, Elder F, F, and I, are going to Disneyland when we get back. We’ll wear the short Lederhosen, and act like German tourists. We’ll do it for three days, and each day act like it’s our last, and hang around chicks so we can get action or something. I hope we really do that. Not so much the hitting on chicks, but hooking up and going to Disneyland. Man I was scared of girls back then.

The German is still atrocious, but at least I’m practicing, eh.

I almost forgot that it’s not tomorrow/morning. (No idea what I meant there.) Today was a good day. I made a commitment with Brother F. It is that I will not speak a single word of English tomorrow.

We have the devil with us now. It is a chess game. We all play the game instead of studying. I will never play the game again.

I, with Elder R, taught the first discussion in German to Elder W and Elder J, and they taught us. We all felt the Spirit. It was very, very cool! I can not wait until I get to Germany. It’s going to be really cool.

I am very mad. We didn’t have sport night again. It’s raining. We can’t play outside when it’s raining. Hopefully we’ll be able to play on Wednesday or have sport night. Oh well.

I’ll tell ya about Friday. It was OK. I got my grüne Ungeheuer (green Monster, the big German study guide) bound. That cost me $2.50. I also bought a picture of Ammon defending the flocks. It’s awesome, I’ve always wanted one. I can’t think of anything else of importance that might have happened.

Today was alright. The weather, I think, was the awesomest part of the day. For most of the morning, until about noon, the sky was just complete clouds. It was really neat looking. For most of the day too, the Mountain outside the window, the one behind the Temple, was just covered in clouds. It was really awesome. There was tons of dark patches and light patches all over.

Also cool about today was that we did a ton of door approaches. It was all in German too, we did it with our Sister District. It was a little difficult to try and think up a way that was good and not just “Hi I’m Elder S and I’m a missionary… And I have a message about Christ for you.” It helped, though, to make me think of other ways to bring up the topic of Christ. I can’t wait to get to Germany.

The best day so far

23 May 1996

Today was probably one of, if not, the best day I’ve had so far. What made that so was a letter that I got from A. He was writing in response to the letter I had sent him about how I felt that the Elders were treating me as a tag along and an outcast and what not. It was just an awesome letter. I love him so much. He’s my bestest best friend. He said he’d like to come up here to see me off at the airport. I hope he does, that would be so awesome.

Today went pretty well. Normal class times and what not. Nothing really sticks out. Nothing until Sportstunde, that is. I had so much fun. I played three-flys-up with Dan F, oops, Elder F, and his district. It was ganz toll. And the weather was awesome also. It was really overcast, in fact by the end of Sportstunde it was lightly sprinkling. It was also really windy. It was so much fun. Today was Elder F’s last Sportstunde. He’s leaving on Monday, I think. I’m going to miss him, he’s an awesome guy. It’ll be cool, though, when we get home. We’ll be able to speak German to each other all the time. I hope we’ll be able to get together and be real good friends after our missions. I’ve only got three weeks from today. I can’t wait.

Oh yeah, the choir sounded really good too.

My German is improving, but still pretty rough. Here’s what it says.
Today was a good day for me. I slept for five hours in my bedroom. I was allowed to because Elder G was very sick, and I had to stay with him. Elder Eyring from the Twelve Apostles spoke to us. It was a good talk. It was about the Holy Ghost and that we must teach by the Holy Ghost. I was also Helmut today. (The person who is Helmut is only allowed to speak German.) I think that I spoke lots of German today. Oh well, later.

The Mongoose

20 May 1996

Yesterday was a sad day. Elder R found out that his friend’s father died.

Brother J brought his mongoose today. We all went out to the parking lot to see it. It was in a wooden box type of a cage. When we had all gathered around to get a closer look, Brother J pulled a trigger and the lid flipped back real fast and just about scared the wee-wee out of everyone. Everyone but me and Elder R, we knew that it was a joke, and played along. It was soooo funny. We did it to some other Elders and Sisters and had a similar reaction, it was ganz toll. Bis Spater.

I forgot, Elder A flew this morning. He was the next A.P. after Elder S. He was an awesome, awesome Elder. He’s a great missionary.
